Assessing the Practicality of Using an Automatic Speech Recognition Tool to Teach English Pronunciation Online

This study aims to determine how well an automatic speech recognition (ASR) tool could be used in online EFL course help L1 Japanese students improve their pronunciation. Previous studies have suggested that ASR tools can helpful this regard, but few dealt with entirely or attempted use the data which lessons were most impactful. Therefore, we a mixture of pre- and posttest survey results would receive tool, whether not they improve, what useful them. The suggest generally positive towards ASR-assisted practice quite clearly improved intelligibility, especially who began lower ability. Specifically, was found for had than 95% accuracy on pretests. Furthermore, claimed practicing consonant vowel sounds, statistical model unable pinpoint overall improvement. Future work should aim discover best drills pronunciation points teach.
